About Us

Round-Up is a non-profit organization that works to improve Israeli society by enabling every Israeli to make a significant impact on society. The organization was founded in 2008 by Orni Petruschka, Jacob Burak and Yehoshua Agassi with the goal of expanding the circle of philanthropy in Israel.

Round-Up enables credit card users to give a permanent standing order to round up each of their credit card transactions to the nearest round amount (NIS).  For instance: buying a product, which costs 74.60 NIS you will be charged 75.00 NIS. The extra 40 pennies (Agorot) will be directed to a charity of your choice, from a list of selected charities provided by Round-Up. No fee is collected along the way by Round-Up or by the credit card companies, i.e. the entire rounded amount goes to the selected charities. Thus the mechanism allows for a permanent donation from the donor to the charities, and ties the donor’s regular consumption to routine giving.

Small donations from many people add up to make a significant contribution that affects the lives of hundreds of thousands of children, youth, adults, elderly people, people with special needs, animals and others. Every new Round-Up subscriber expands the circle of philanthropy and helps to create real change in the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals in need.

When registering for the service, the donor chooses up to three destinations for their donation. Such destinations could be either a specific charity, or a category, such as health, children and teenagers at risk, environmental protection, education, people with disabilities, etc.  Changing the selected destinations or opting out of the service is possible at any time.

In addition to rounding up by credit card transactions, Round-Up enables a similar method of donation in some Israeli companies, where an employee can instruct to regularly round down the monthly salary to the nearest multiple 5/10/20 NIS, and direct the deduction amount to the charities as per the above mechanism.

The list of eligible charities currently includes 113 charities divided into 10 categories.  The eligible charities are selected by a public committee chaired by the former President of the Israeli Supreme Court, Justice Meir Shamgar. Most of the charities also have the "Midot Seal of Effectiveness". The committee bases its choices on the effectiveness and transparency of the charities.

As of October 2013, there are over 100,000 registered subscribers to Round-Up Israel.

Round-Up Israel is part of an international initiative and it is the pioneer organization to implement the Round-Up model in the world. Other countries, including Brazil, the Netherlands, South Africa, France, Australia and the U.S. are working to develop a similar model, based on the experience and knowledge gained in Israel.
